.:Black Jack:. 30”x 40” Mixed Media on Board   #blackjack #JackJohnson #boxing #champion #galleryshow #rva #loosescrewtattoo #glitchgallery Here’s the full look at one of my pieces in my show at Glitch Gallery in RVA.  It’s been a couple years since I ve painted.  All the exploration in my sketchbooks finally had me come around and break out the brushes again.  Wanting to work on a larger scale, I decided to tackle a portrait I had been thinking on for a while, of one of the largest american personalities I’ve read on that no one seems to talk about a great deal: Jack Johnson.   He’s a real life, American Tall Tale hero, a laced up John Henry if there ever was one.  One of the smoothest cats walking the earth in the 1900’s, he broke boxing’s color line, became champion after many long years of fighting adversary outside and inside the ring, loved whoever he wanted, and did it all with his golden tooth smile.  He was his own man.
